Backyard Alley Party
Calgary is not shy when hosting a multitude of multicultural and artistic events. And Calgarians come together in even stronger numbers when the support of the community is needed.
As most Calgarians know, the famous 17th AVE in downtown Calgary is a hub for entertainment, pubs, restaurants, shopping and coffee shops. However, later this summer, the city of Calgary began upgrades along the popular and long stretch of 17th AVE.
With business owners and managers worried about the reduction of foot and vehicle traffic into their doors, they have come together to showcase what 17th AVE has to offer to everyone, even during construction. For the next several week, the RED (Retail Entertainment District) mile will be transformed into a Backyard Alley Party with live music, dance parties and more.
As reported on the 17thave.ca website,
“FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 22ND – SUNDAY, OCTOBER 1ST
For a long time, 17th Avenue has been a stretch of road that brings people together. Whether you’re shopping, going to your favourite restaurant or grabbing a pint on a patio, 17th Ave is where you want to be.
So, while 17th Avenue is under reconstruction, the City of Calgary – Your Local Government in partnership with the 17th Ave SW, the Beltline Neighbourhoods Association and the businesses of the 400 block of 17th Ave are throwing an alley party! We’ll be transforming the alley into a vibrant, magnetic and intriguing destination where you can sit on a patio, do some shopping, do yoga, watch an outdoor movie, grab a bite to eat and see local art!
Friday, September 22 – 6pm – 10pm
Saturday, September 23 – 10am – 10pm
Sunday, September 24 – 10am – 10pm
Friday, September 29 – 6pm – 10pm
Saturday, September 30 – 10am – 10pm

Come hang out in The Backyard and soak up the last bit of summer before it’s gone! These fine establishments will have new patios in the alley for you to enjoy:
